Parenting Courses (Buckinghamshire County Council)

The Family Resilience Service run evidence based parenting groups and programmes. These will give you the help and support to build your confidence in parenting and help your parent and child relationship.

Other information

Interpreters for parents with English as a second language and Child Care for children under 4 years of age,with the exception of Teen Triple P, can be provided under certain circumstances. In order for this to be arranged we need be informed at the -me of boo1ing.

These are suitable for parents of children 4 to 12 years old. It has a strong focus on developing the parent and child's positive relationship along with looking at behaviour strategies. It gives you tips on how to improve your child's self-esteem and support your child with their academic development at school. Courses will run termly, upcoming courses are listed below: 


School Age (4 to 12 years)

If you are a professional wishing to refer someone to a group and they are willing to commit, please email parentinggroups@buckscc.gov.uk with the completed referral form

These are for parents of children of all ages (Group and Teen) and children with disabilities (Stepping Stones). It helps parents apply positive parenting strategies and learn to deal with problem behaviours. 

You can access Triple P online to look at options and advice. Courses will run termly, upcoming courses are listed below:


Group Triple P (2 to 10 years)

Triple P gives simple and practical strategies to help parents confidently manage their children's behaviour, prevent problems developing and build strong, healthy relationships.


Teen Triple P (10 to 15 years) 

Triple P looks at issues that are arising in the family, strategies for how to overcome them and during the individual sessions looks at how these are being implemented.

Stepping Stones (Special Educational Needs and Disability - All Ages)

Suitable for parents of children with a range of disabilities (e.g. intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorders, cerebral palsy and high levels of disruptive behaviour). This group covers all ages.

PEEP or Solihull (under 5 years)

These run in Children's Centres and are listed in our Children's Centre zone. Click here to go to our Children's Zone to find your local centre and how to contact them.


Speakeasy (8 years plus)

These are to help parents start talking to their children about growing up, relationships and sex.  It helps parents understand what is appropriate at particular ages. There are no courses for Speakeasy in the near future. Please contact us if you are interested as we may be able to help you find another course that may assist you.

Strengthening Families (10 to 14 years)

These are for both children and parents to attend and helps both prepare for the challenges of the teenage years. There are no courses for Strengthening Families in the near future. Please contact us if you are interested as we may be able to help you find another course that may assist you.


Future Steps (Lone parents under the age of 25)

Lone parents can learn a range of skills, including food hygiene, first aid and interview skills on these free, child-friendly courses. Running in Aylesbury, Wycombe and Chesham over the coming months.

These ‘Future Steps’ courses have been created for single parents claiming income support and who have a child under the age of five years.

The sessions also offer free childcare and travel. Childcare is provided at a Children’s Centre, where parents can learn in a separate room to where their child or children are being cared for. The weekly sessions are coordinated by Buckinghamshire County Council in collaboration with Jobcentre Plus and Connexions.
