What qualities do I need to be a successful childminder?

To be a successful childminder, you need to have the following qualities;

  • Be adaptable

  • Be approachable

  • Ability to run your own business

  • Be committed to providing quality care

  • Be committed to ongoing professional development

  • Passionately believe all children deserve the best start in life

What training do I need?

Ofsted requires that you complete training which helps you to understand and implement the Early Years Foundation Stage before you can register with them. Before that, a two and a half hour, face-to-face Ofsted briefing sessions (OBS) will give you all the information you need to decide whether childminding is the right career choice for you. It looks at all aspects of childminding, the training course and other processes that are involved in registering.
