Gruffalo Spotters Trail 2 follow the trail and use the app to spot the Gruffalo at Wendover Woods

Download the new Gruffalo Spotters 2 UK app and buy a pack from the Information Point (which includes an activity leaflet full of fun facts and activities, Gruffalo mask and paws, a nature spotters game, stickers as well as a crayon and pencil) and interact with all the Gruffalo characters on the app.  Follow the trail to finish at the Gruffalo sculpture!

Gruffalo Orienteering - fun family map reading challenge

Try our fun, navigational challenge at Wendover Woods using a simple map to find twelve Gruffalo markers hidden in the deep, dark wood. If you're feeling competitive, choose to run, walk (or skip!) the course against the clock. Before you begin the trail, pick up a Gruffalo orienteering leaflet with a certificate and map for just £1.50 from the Information Point.

If you venture into the deep dark wood you may bump into the Gruffalo. Each wooden sculpture has been carved in a different position - can you find them all across the nation's forests?

  • Chiltern trains to Wendover, then short taxi ride or 50 minute walk. London Midland trains to Tring, then short taxi ride.
  • Bus 50 (Mon to Sat) and T1 (Mon to Fri) to Wendover/Halton Camp, then 40 minute walk.
  • Bus 161 (Sun and Bank Holidays) to near entrance gate, then 20 minute walk. Entrance located on St Leonards Road, off B4009 Wendover to Tring road.
  • Parking: The trail and the app are free of charge, but we ask that visitors pay to park in the forest. For up to 2 hours the fare is £2.50, 2 to 4 hours is £4.80, and over 4 hours is £9.

Parking for Blue Badge holders is no longer free at Wendover Woods, bringing us into line with all other Forestry Commission sites. There are new dedicated blue badge parking spaces next to the ticket machines to accommodate this.
