Early Years Local Offer Response
- 1. What recent SEND specific training has been completed by practitioners in the setting?
Awaiting SEND courses
- 2. How are parents involved at the setting and how can I be involved?
By working in close partnership with parents, information about their child’s learning, development and progress is shared on a regular basis. Information about a child’s likes and dislikes is shared and activities are extended to support the child’s enjoyment and learning whilst at the setting. Routines are discussed with parents to ensure consistency throughout the day for their child.
- 3. How will practitioners work with me to share information about my child's progress? What is additional for children with SEND?
All children attending the setting are monitored and observed to support their learning and development. Any concerns regarding a child’s development are shared with the parents and we will work on a joint action plan in support of their child. We will discuss if further support is required or if parents would like other services involved.
- 4. What specialist services and expertise are available at, or accessed by the setting?
As a registered childminder, I have a Key Contact at Buckinghamshire Council with the Early Years Team, and with parental permission, I may contact them for further advice.
A range of online resources (Communication Carousel, IDP, OT and SALT websites) are available for us to access.
I welcome other professionals into the setting who may have involvement with a child and I am keen to access further training to support a child’s development, for example, speech and language (Speech Therapist).
I am happy to attend Multi-Professionals Meetings if required.
- 5. How accessible is the setting's environment (indoors and outdoors)?
My setting is fully accessible for all children both inside and out. I have a small step leading to the front door. I am happy to discuss a child’s individual needs and will be accommodating where possible, for example, adaptations to meet sensory needs or to accommodate dietary requirements.
- 6. What are the transition arrangements for supporting children and families?
I work in close partnership with other childminders, schools, pre-schools to ensure effective transitions for all children. I encourage families to have a settling in period for their child and where time allows a home visit before starting. We will jointly focus on a child’s starting points which will feed into their setting ‘learning journey’. When a child moves settings I will encourage the new provider to visit the child at my setting and in their home environment and ensure they have the opportunity to visit and settle in their new environment.
- 7. What future plans does your setting have for developing its SEND?
To keep up to date with SEND information and training through the Local Authority and my Key Contact. I regularly review the environment, toys, resources, activities and experiences I offer to my families to ensure each individual child’s needs are met.
