Jennifer (Jenny) Humphrey

Childminder located in Stokenchurch.

I have been a Childminder since 2003.

At the time of my most recent inspection, I did not have any Early Years children here with me so could not receive a grading for this particular inspection. Previous inspections when the children I care for were younger and in the Early Year's age bracket I received the grading of good.

In my childminding setting we do lots of craft activities, especially in the winter time, so lots of Christmas bits and pieces made. Craft is available all year if the child chooses to but when the weather is better they can enjoy the large garden we have here. We have a wooden swing/slide set with many attachments, playhouse (with toy kitchen, black and whiteboards), football goals, trampoline (safety net) and an entire shed full of outdoor toys and construction toys. During the summer months we have a 5 metre water slide and an above ground splash pool. This is heated by a solar heater so can still be quite chilly, the children are life-guarded by me at all times and if they are getting cold they have to get out.

We also have two full shelves of children's books, one is storybooks and the other is for reference books/poems/jokes/science experiments. We have many jigsaws, games and activities, dressing up, football table and a huge trunk of Duplo. They have sole use of a laptop, desktop computer, DS's, Wii and PlayStation2. (Not many games for PlayStation though). TV is not usually on; only if one of them is feeling under the weather or occasionally if one child left here after all others have been picked up. Or if we have a cinema day. Cinema days happen about once a year. However, if children are here for an entire day during an inset day, I may put a film on if they request it. TV is not missed or indeed not often even thought of in this house!

The children have the chance to grow vegetables and sunflowers to either grow here or take home or both.

We have a silly, soppy old dog, a mad puppy, a cat and  2 chickens.

I plan ahead for times where we may go to a park, a garden or the woods so that all parents know not to turn up early that day to find us not here.

Many references are available.

I hold a current First Aid certificate.

I am registered with the Information Commissioner's Office for Data.

I have completed an NSPCC Child Protection Awareness course and a PACEY 'Safeguarding Children' online course.

I am registered with Food Standards Agency as a food provider and have had an inspection from an Environmental Health Officer and passed with flying colours. No stars are given to private dwellings sadly, although I was assured I would have been a 5 star. I have completed a Level 2 Basic Food Hygiene course and renew my knowledge regularly with online courses on the subject.

I have completed online courses that are for: Expectations of Behaviour, Child Exploitation and Online Safety and Level 2 Data Protection.

Naturally, I have a Criminal records check (now DBS) as do all over 16's living in my house.

I have my public liability insurance in place through PACEY (Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years) with Royal Sun Alliance.

Cost Description

50p 'meal' is for an after-school snack, which all the children have, but, obviously, this is not compulsory. If you wish to provide your own then you could always put a piece of fruit in your child's school bag, for your child to have when the others have the snack.

Snack varies from day to day, week to week, season to season, for example, soup and bread, crackers & cheese and salad, fruit platter, fish-fingers, waffle and vegetables. Sounds like a full meal but it is a small quantity to make it snack size.

Childcare Information

I have 1 vacancy for a child that is in full time education (over 5's usually, sometimes they are 4).

I have 1 space for all 5 days for before school. I have 2 after school space available on the Thursday & Friday.

I do not take the number of children that Ofsted allow but the number that will fit in my 7 seater car. Therefore, it is a close group of 6 children here at any one time. The school I serve is within a walking distance and we do walk when weather allows but it is lovely to have the option to jump in the car when it does not allow. I can give them much more attention this way too.

Term-time only preferred but the very occasional school holiday day can be arranged. I often provide care on Inset days.
