Childminder located in Chesham in the District of Chiltern.
I am NNEB qualified and have worked in many Early Years settings. I have been a childminder for 18 years. I am married with two (grown-up) children. I am qualified in first aid, child protection, and food hygiene.
I plan my days according to the needs of the children in my care and with reference to the Early Years Foundation Stage. I offer a homely and safe environment that has plenty of space for play and activities. I also have a safe and secure garden for outside play.
We have outings to local toddler groups, the library, and the park. We have creative activities such as painting, junk modelling, and play dough on offer each day.
Additional cultural and or dietary requirements are catered for via discussion with parents and carers and liaising with other involved agencies.

All children new to this setting are assessed to give a starting point to see individual progression. I have extensive knowledge of child development. This has been gained through training and via 40 years of working in childcare in a variety of settings. Any concerns I may have will be discussed with the parents and any further advice and support, with parental permission, would be sought from professionals.

Early Years Local Offer Response
- 1. What recent SEND specific training has been completed by practitioners in the setting?
Autism and Play, completed September 2010
Supporting children with speech, language and communication needs, completed February 2015
Supporting children's emotional well-being, completed March 2015
- 2. How are parents involved at the setting and how can I be involved?
I work in partnership with parents and share information about their child's/children's development and progress. This is done regularly in an agreed way to suit the parents. I ask parents to share information regarding their child's likes and dislikes, activities that they enjoy the most and those they may be having difficulty with. This information is used when planning activities and to offer support so that children may reach their potential within this setting. I share ideas with parents for use at home.
- 3. How will practitioners work with me to share information about my child's progress? What is additional for children with SEND?
I observe and assess all children in my care. Where a need is identified I support the parent/parents with preparing and implementation of a joint action plan for their child . If appropriate, and with parental permission, other agencies may be involved.
- 4. What specialist services and expertise are available at, or accessed by the setting?
All registered childminders have a key contact within the Early Years Service and, from this contact, advice and information can be accessed. They can also answer questions and offer advice on other appropriate services. Professionals are very welcome to meet the child at this setting if that is desired.
- 5. How accessible is the setting's environment (indoors and outdoors)?
This setting is accessible to most children. Steps lead from street level to the front door. These steps are wide and can accommodate prams, pushchairs and wheelchairs.
- 6. What are the transition arrangements for supporting children and families?
I have formed links with local pre schools and schools and we work together to support children through transition. I am happy for practitioners from other settings to contact me. I encourage parents to make use of settling in sessions for their children.
- 7. What future plans does your setting have for developing its SEND?
I am aware of the need for flexibility within this setting to ensure that all children reach their full potential and that all their needs can be met. I keep updated with new guidance from the Local Authority and use their website regularly. I acknowledge the need for training where appropriate.
