Julie Knight and Lucy Clark are highly experienced Specialist Teachers. Inclusively Down specialises in working with children and young people with Down syndrome and supports schools, settings, professionals and families through training, support packages and consultancy.

We offer consultation sessions to schools and settings to develop their knowledge and understanding of Down syndrome and look at meeting individual needs. We also work alongside teachers and support staff, modelling successful strategies to support children with Down syndrome to access the curriculum and an inclusive environment. We consider good practice and approaches to support potential and engagement in learning, based on research and proven methods.

We also carry out assessments and then offer advice on particular programmes/ support which may further progress.

We can support your child’s progress in the home or offer early intervention support to your pre-schooler. We can also help parents navigate the EHCP and Education process and signpost you to appropriate resources and services.

We will devise bespoke support which suits each particular child / young person, their family and the school or setting they attend.

We offer training on the needs of children and young people with Down syndrome, externally or delivered on-site to staff or parents.

Inclusively Down offer bespoke and personalised support which really meets children and young people’s individual needs. The team believe that every child and young person regardless of ability has a right to an inclusive and outstanding education, which supports their emotional well-being and prepares them for independence and living a fulfilled life. We can support schools and settings to meet their legal obligations to inclusion and equality.

Inclusively Down believe parents and families are paramount to the successful inclusion of children and young people with Down syndrome. Parents are the first teachers and know their children best. It is crucial that schools, settings and professionals work in partnership with parents. Inclusively Down actively supports this through working with parents and agencies to ensure the best outcomes for their children.

Inclusively Down are expert at working directly in schools and settings alongside staff. Offering advice, support and practical strategies on a wide range of topics including differentiation of the curriculum, the specific learning profile, behaviour, social skills, good learning support assistant practice and transition all of which will ensure successful inclusion of children and young people with Down syndrome.  As independent specialist teachers we can support schools, settings and families to achieve this through our consultation services. These can be one off consultation packages or ongoing package of support tailored to suit individual needs. Our consultation sessions to schools and settings aim to develop their knowledge and understanding of Down syndrome. This may include an observation of the child/young person followed by advice/recommendations and support for implementation. 

Inclusively Down also design and deliver an extensive range of training courses, including but not limited to whole day conferences, to en-skill professionals, parents and carers to meet the individual learning needs of children and young people with Down syndrome. These can be bespoke to meet individual requirements or we run national events throughout the year details of which can be found on our website.

How is your service or activity fully accessible to children, young people with SEND and their families for example, facilities, support from staff?

Inclusively Down as well as offering an extensive range of training can also offer support to implement the knowledge learned from these. As specialist teachers, we have first-hand experience of teaching in a wide range of educational environments and can offer the practical support needed to put the theory into practice.

Every person is unique, and like our logo, Inclusively Down believes that support and training should reflect this. That is why we tailor all our training courses to reflect our customers’ needs and every support package is designed and developed in partnership with parents, schools and settings to ensure that the children and young people we support individual learning needs are met.

What training have your staff and/or volunteers received to support children and young people with SEND and their families?

We are two Specialist Teachers with over 30 years combined experience, supporting children and young people with Down syndrome and 50 years overall teaching experience. We have taught in a variety of educational settings including mainstream and specialist provision and have taught across all age ranges.
