Youth Justice Liaison and Diversion Service, NHS
The aim of the Youth Justice Liaison and Diversion service is to assess the needs of all young people under 18 who come into contact with the Police across Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. We aim to support and signpost these young people and family members to a service which can provide help to meet any unmet needs and ultimately reduce the number of people entering the criminal justice system.
Services could include those focusing on emotional well being, learning needs, education and employment, social care as well as youth support organisations. These services may be able to help you with skills to overcome difficulties, identify strengths and build confidence through meaningful activity.
The Buckinghamshire Youth Justice Liaison and Diversion Service also has the following functions:
Early identification of mental health and learning disability needs and other vulnerabilities in young people.
Reduction and management of the potential risks posed by the young person to others and self by early identification of such concerns.
Contribution to the reduction in ‘first-time entrants’, re-offending rates and custody for children and young people in Buckinghamshire.
Support for local services to enhance the delivery of responsive child-centred care through multi-agency care-planning.
Facilitation of smooth transitions for young people both between different services for young people and between children’s and adult services.
Promotion of social inclusion and parity of provision for young people within the service remit; and
Promotion of young people’s developmental potential.
