Parent Support | by The Autism Group

The Autism Group offers free Parent Support and Social groups, parent training sessions and a home visit service for residents in the Boroughs of Windsor and Maidenhead, Slough and Bracknell.  These services are offered to parents of children and young people of any age who either have a diagnosis of an autism spectrum condition or are on the diagnosis pathway awaiting assessment.

Pop in for coffee and a chat with other parents at one of our parent support groups. Some are run alongside our Special Interest Groups and some at the Braywick Heath Nursery all in the Maidenhead area. Relax and chat with people who understand the joys and challenges of parenting children with autism.

We offer a range of free training sessions for parents of young people on the spectrum. A range of topics and venues in East Berkshire. Details on our website.

With our home visits, we aim to build parental knowledge, skills and confidence to better support a family member on the spectrum. An initial phone call or email is followed by two visits from a qualified autism professional who is also a parent of someone on the autism spectrum.

Each session lasts up to 2 hours. The first visit is to listen and respond to specific areas of difficulty and suggest tried and tested strategies aimed at improving communication, behaviour or well- being for those on the spectrum. A follow-up visit 6 to 8 weeks later provides an opportunity to discuss, reflect and assess the effectiveness of suggested approaches and share information about useful sources of support.

Details of all our parent support activities can be found on our website. We offer daytime and weekend groups.
