Jo Wheeler

Jo Wheeler, Childminder

I aim to provide a relaxed environment and to be outside as much as we can. I pick up from Cheddington school and preschool. Snacks (some homemade) are included with a hot, vegetarian evening meal provided for an additional sum.

We have two children aged 6 and 8 and a Labrador called Spike. My husband (who is DBS checked) works from home two days a week.

Early Years Local Offer Response

1. What recent SEND specific training has been completed by practitioners in the setting?

2. How are parents involved at the setting and how can I be involved?

As a childminder my service is tailored to the needs of the individual. Parents can be involved in planning daily activities and are encouraged to provide feedback.

3. How will practitioners work with me to share information about my child's progress? What is additional for children with SEND?

Children under three have a daily diary where what they have eaten, nappy changes, naps, activities and 'wow' moments are recorded.  A diary can be completed for older children with SEND and comments written by parents are welcomed. Photos and updates are shared for all preschool children via an agreed private social media platform.

4. What specialist services and expertise are available at, or accessed by the setting?

None at the moment. Happy to look into expanding my services should the need arise.

5. How accessible is the setting's environment (indoors and outdoors)?

The garden is level access, however there are steps to all doors into the house. There is a toilet downstairs. Additional toys, tools, adaptations could be purchased/put in place if required. The house can get very noisy especially after school.

6. What are the transition arrangements for supporting children and families?

Each child is treated as an individual so any transition is discussed with the parent/carer and a plan drawn up which meets the needs of the child. It is recognised that some children will need a longer settling in period than others, and more input required from parents, carers to ensure the setting is suitable for the child, fully meets their needs and transitions are managed to the benefit of the child.

7. What future plans does your setting have for developing its SEND?

As a childminder my service is tailored to the needs of the children currently on my books. If the need arises then further improvements could be put in place.
