Jack and Jill Pre-School Playgroup (Marlow)

Jack and Jill Preschool is situated in a spacious Church Hall in the centre of Marlow. We take children from the age of 2 years to rising 5s, and feed into most of the surrounding schools.  Jack and Jill operates a mixed-aged pre-school, with the older and younger children able to move freely between our two rooms.  The children have access to a wide range of resources, with additional activities arranged for the older children to prepare them for school. We ensure that children's dietary requirements are met, particularly with regard to allergies/intolerance's (including dairy/gluten free diets, nut, fish, egg allergies). 

We have a team of experienced, qualified staff who support and nurture the children in our care.  Led by the Pre-school Leader Jane Langley and her Deputy Caroline Spencer, our staff work closely together to provide excellent care at high adult/child ratios.

We offer a flexible settling in process and we will work with you to decide on how to best help your child to settle into the pre-school; some children need shorter sessions to start with until they are ready to attend the full 3-hour sessions.

Additional Services (at an extra cost)

  • Lunch Club is offered on Mondays, Tuesday and Thursdays, from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm. 
  • Our normal starting time is 9:30 am but we offer an 'Early Bird' service where we will take children from 9am if required.

Jack and Jill Pre-school is located across the road from Higginson's Park, at the bottom of the High Street.  Limited, short term parking is available in front of the Pre-school.

Early Years Local Offer Response

1. What recent SEND specific training has been completed by practitioners in the setting?

We endeavour to attend SEND training courses that are:

  • relevant to the current needs of the children in the setting
  • within our financial means
  • within reasonable travelling distance

When outside professionals have been involved with a child, we have worked closely with them and through these experiences, we have gained considerable knowledge in a wide variety of SEND areas. The SENCO has also undertaken professional reading and research into a child’s particular SEND, as well as spending time really getting to know the child’s character, with the intent of focusing in on how we can best support the child and meet his/her needs.

2. How are parents involved at the setting and how can I be involved?

At the beginning and end of each session, the child’s key person is available to talk to parents about their child’s progress (plus activities they have particularly enjoyed, friendships, achievements for example). If parents would like to see their child’s learning journal, they are welcome to do so on request. We are always more than happy to talk to parents and provide support and ideas of activities to do at home.

3. How will practitioners work with me to share information about my child's progress? What is additional for children with SEND?

We will share information verbally at the beginning or end of sessions, through the child’s learning journal, and at times by email if parents are not available to talk during session times.  Parents may request a meeting with the child’s key person, SENCO or the pre-school leader/deputy. Where there is formal SEND paperwork in place (for example: EHC Plan, SEN Support Plan, Assess-Plan-Do-Review Plan) we will liaise closely with parents for their input in setting achievable targets for the child, related to the child’s specific area of need; this is regularly reviewed to ensure targets are being met and for new targets to be set.

4. What specialist services and expertise are available at, or accessed by the setting?

We have experience in supporting children with a wide variety of needs, such as down syndrome, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, visual impairment, Asperger syndrome, autism, speech and language difficulties, specific learning difficulties, physical impairment and selective mutism. 


5. How accessible is the setting's environment (indoors and outdoors)?

The Pre-school’s ground floor premises are easily accessible via a ramp. We have a large spacious hall which ensures accessibility to activities. The outside is also easily accessible; there is a small step but if this is a problem then there is an alternative side exit to the outdoor space with no step. We have a good size, flat tarmac space outside. Toilets are easily accessible. 


6. What are the transition arrangements for supporting children and families?

We liaise closely with the school the child will be moving on to in order to pass on our records and provide detailed information. We also welcome the new teacher, practitioner to come and visit the child in the setting.

7. What future plans does your setting have for developing its SEND?

We will offer the same high level of support that we have always provided, by increasing our knowledge and training as and when required. We will continue to be pro-active in carrying out our own research as to how we can best identify and support a child’s individual needs.
