Staying in Learning Longer
Were you born in or after 1996? You will now be required to continue your learning until you are 18. What does that mean for you and what options are available to you?
What does staying in learning mean?
You will be able to choose from the following:
- Apprenticeship – where you can earn and learn at the same time.
- College – where a wide range of courses are offered, related to career aims.
- School Sixth Form - either at your current school or move to another school.
- Training – Providers run a range of programmes at all levels.

This scheme helps 16 to 19 year-olds continue in full-time education, where they might otherwise struggle for financial reasons. It is made up of two parts – a bursary of £1,200 a year to the most vulnerable young people and a discretionary fund for schools and colleges to distribute.
