The Wheelchair Service provides services to adults and children in Buckinghamshire with long-term mobility problems. They do this through assessing, providing and maintaining mobility equipment. This includes equipment for specialist seating, mobility and pressure care.
There are around 7,500 service users within Buckinghamshire. The service is mostly community based and assessments can happen in a variety of places such as schools and rehabilitation units. A separate company undertakes the repair, storage, collection, delivery, and refurbishment of wheelchairs.
We offer an open referral system so service users can refer themselves by telephoning, emailing or faxing into the service. GPs, Consultants, Physiotherapists or Occupational Therapists can refer you to your local Wheelchair Service. Professionals are requested to fill in a referral form. All referrals are triaged.
The service operates from Amersham:
- Tel: 01494 734046
- Fax: 01494 734746

Funding and Other Options
Due to funding limitations there is an eligibility criteria. Many children are not eligible to receive a wheelchair or buggy through the NHS Wheelchair Service. Despite this, there are alternatives such as:
- Using the mobility component of your child's Disability Living Allowance (DLA).
- Seeking charitable funding:
Whizz-Kidz is a service which provides disabled children with the essential wheelchairs and other mobility equipment they need to lead fun and active childhoods.
