Post-16 Education; your stories (SEND)

Leaving school is a scary time and a big change. For those with SEND, it can be even more daunting and an anxious time for their family too. Young people from specialist educational settings have said that their main worries were around the new environments, new people, and losing specialist care that they may be used to.

Buckinghamshire SEND Post 16 provision aims to maintain this help and support for young people in education as well as aiding more opportunities for employment and independent living. The videos below share the experiences of young people in Bucks who have moved into post 16 education such as college.

TalkBack participants

In this film we follow a road safety awareness session with TalkBack. We hear from the staff about the importance of learning basic skills such as walking across a busy road and the success stories of the young people who have attended.

We hear from a physiotherapist, music therapist and Speech and language therapists, we are also invited in to see therapy sessions in action. Therapists tell us about how they support students in college and how young people can access their service.

picture of Aster Lodge residentsA tour of Aster Lodge, supported living service for young people aged 16 and over. We hear from staff about how the service supports young adults put into practice the independent living skills they have learned at college. We also see the residents preparing dinner together while telling us about their lives outside of Aster Lodge.
